Psychiatric Nursing Certification Preparation and Update Course Includes Pharmacotherapeutics, Research and Leadership

Purpose: To acquire the information you need to sit and pass the ANCC psychiatric mental health examination leading to certification and to enhance the knowledge needed to become more effective when working with psychiatric mental health clients. Objectives: At the conclusion of this program you will be able to: Develop a study plan focusing on identified areas needing improvement· Use effective test taking strategies when sitting for the certification examination.· Articulate current thinking as it relates to psychiatric mental health nursing practice.· Distinguish the presentation of various diagnostic categories· Apply the nursing process when developing plans of care and appropriate interventions· Discuss health promotion and disease prevention· Describe treatment modalities and their relevance to the major diagnostic categories· Discuss current pharmacotherapeutic treatment interventions including uses, efficacy, side effects and interactions· Incorporate principles of leadership and research in your practice.
Credits Nurses: a total of 14 contact hours will be awarded if entire program is attended. Ames High is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Social Workers/LPCs will be awarded 14 hours, 1.4 CEUs. The Board of Social Worker Examiners approved Ames High (#4207) to award credit for this program and the credit is also accepted for LPCs and LMFTs. Faculty Margaret Cole (Peggy) Marshall, MA, MS, PMHCNS, BC has a vast background in psychiatric nursing. She has taught in schools of nursing and has many years of practice in various psychiatric settings including the US military. She regularly teaches this course and receives outstanding evaluations.
